Thirsty Thursday: Coffee Creamer Post-Cholecystectomy

Coffee…

For many individuals, it’s a morning staple. It’s our “go-go juice”, “functioning fluid” or even “sanity in a cup”.

Regardless of coffee’s multiple aliases, it’s something that many find difficult to sacrifice after having their gallbladder removed.

Everyone’s post-surgery tolerance will vary depending on any co-existing conditions, tolerance for caffeine, etc. If you have tried coffee and are able to drink it sans-gallbladder, you may find that you will need to reduce or eliminate creamers and sweeteners… “Whaaaat? ALL of the tasty goodness?”

Not necessarily… I have found some AMAZING plant-based coffee creamer that taste similar to—-or dare I say—- BETTER than their dairy-based counterparts.

Two plant-based creamers that I am currently enjoying are: Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Non-Dairy Creamer with Almond Milk and Oat Milk and Chobani Plant Based Coffee Creamer in the Sweet and Creamy variety. (I’m not affiliated with or sponsored by either brand).

These are just two of many plant-based options available. So explore the supermarket near you or even online market and see what you can find!

In addition to the taste, another thing I enjoy is the reduced caloric, fat, and sugar intake. For me, they are easier on the gut and don’t bloat me compared to their milk/cream based varieties.

Hopefully, you are able to customize your morning (or afternoon) cup of coffee in a way that allows you to keep it in rotation as you navigate post-cholecystectomy life.

As with all dietary changes, it is recommended to consult your Physician, or a Registered Dietitian prior to integration of new foods in to your diet.

Cheers!
